How Did We Do?

December 31, 2013

BLAH! :20:

Again, nothing has changed since October's posting; we are still not expecting any substantial economic improvement, in North America, until after the next US president takes office.

Again, sad!

i) October 11, 2011:

BUG FIX

The default setting in a table column was set at "b" instead of "t". This prevented some users from accessing forums and posting in them.

That has now been fixed.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

ii) September 19, 2011:

This morning, http://www.dddpl.com experienced "a rare kernal error" which prevented the site from being accessible.

Our host company reported seeing this error, on a previous occasion.

So, the host techs will, now, conduct a further investigation and, as a result, might update the "kernal".

Sorry for any inconvenience!

Where Did They Go?:

.
.

i.) April 19, 2011:

a) Incoherent Messages:

Despite our warnings about posting incoherent messages, people still do. So, regretably, we're deleting a lot.

Incoherent messages do not help anyone.

Please avoid posting incoherent messages!

- Admin.

b) Unrelated Links:

Frequently, we're running into posts which contain "unrelated links". For example, a posted message might be about cell phones, but the links contained within the message go to a site that is selling refrigerators or other appliances.

If you are posting a message about cell phones, then please have the message's links go to a site or, at least, a page that is also about cell phones.

To help protect our reputation and provide a true service, we remove postings that contain unrelated links.

- Admin.

ii.) December 28, 2010:

On June 1, 2010, our server turned off just as it was writing information. So, a big (really big) chunk of our database was lost and this meant that many of our posts were lost.

The event also made our old board hugely-dysfunctional.

We were told that this could have been caused by a "variety" of explanations - many of which seemed purely-innocent.

Exacerbating matters, however, was that our backup system also failed.

Yet, rather than finger-point and wallow in self-pity, we spent the last 6 months upgrading and rebuilding.

We also improved our backup system.

So, a repeat of the problems seems highly-unlikely.

In short, then, although we have a lot more posts, now, many of our old ones have been lost.

Your's might have been among them.

Sorry!

iii) May 8, 2008:

Occasionally, we come across postings that try to trick visitors into downloading malware. There have not been many, but when we do find them, we make our system go through everything - which is usually pretty fast - and disable any other instances of the problematic-post. So, if you saw a post that contains the phase: "DONOTCLICKTHISLINK!!!", then that was one of those deceptive posts. Unfortunately, the system won't also automatically delete them. So, we do that, manually, during routine maintenance. Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience!

iv) January 13, 2008:

In effort to restore order, we have created a new category, called "Adult Entertainment", and we are gradually moving improperly-posted porno plus gaming ads to that location. Presently, "Adult Entertainment>Videos, Gaming, Etc." [see: viewforum.php?f=41] can be found at the bottom of this message board. If you are posting an ad for legal porn and/or gaming, then please save us the trouble and place your message there. Thanks! We also appear to be moving improperly-placed dating-related posts into the "Personals" section, below, too!

Posting Tips:

.
.

1. Search engines usually prefer posts which contain paragraphs. Posts which contain only links are usually deemed to have "too many redirects" and are rejected. So, if you want to increase the odds that a search engine will recommend your post to other individuals, then you should include some text about your subject matter(s)/link(s). RULE OF THUMB: The more coherent text/paragraphs there are in your post, then the more odds will increase, in your favor.

2. Make sure that your post is located under the proper forum heading. Otherwise, we will have to move it, for you. Users who repeatedly place their posts in the wrong forum get banned!

3. Please keep language clean and posts non-slandering plus legal. Whenever we encounter them, we remove defamatory and illegal posts.
