Panasonic TX - P46S10B Review: A Real Steal
by: Alex Bradbury

The Panasonic TX-P46S10B is a High Definition TV that is now available in the UK market. It is a Plasma TV that has simplicity written all over it with no flashy curves or lights sweeping across its frame. There are also no visible buttons and the only way to control this 46 inch Plasma TV is through its remote. This simplicity extends to its on screen menu and it has made it very user friendly. Even if you don’t have vast knowledge in setting up a TV’s output, you can easily control it to reach its optimum performance.

The Panasonic TX-P46S10B uses a twelfth generation Plasma Panel Technology and measures 113x40.1x76.7 cms and weighs about 31 kilograms. It is able to support 1920x1080 pixels resolution when used in Full High Definition. It is also capable of supporting a variety of widescreen modes like the 14:9 zoom, the conventional 4:3, and the full resolution 16:9 ratio.

It’s fairly understandable that the Panasonic TX-P46S10B, would be providing fantastic video playback, but life changing it’s not. Its true black levels though are quite remarkable and its biggest strength as it shows true black in dark scenes while details can still be seen with images mixed in shadows. When paired with HD video sources, you will surely get optimal performance in its video output, images are extremely sharp and there are exceptional details. Although you wouldn’t find Panasonic’s famed NeoPDP system for Plasma Technology that comes with the higher end Panasonic Plasma TVs.

Unlike other Plasma or LCD TVs in its class, the Panasonic TX-P46S10B has been found wanting in connectivity ports. You will find the basic and standard inputs and outputs that are in every Plasma or LCD TV like HDMI inputs, there are three of them, two at the back and one at the side, but there is no DVI or VGA input. One composite video input is placed at the side of the frame and at the back; you will find two component video inputs.

One upside about the connectivity options of the Panasonic TX-P46S10B is that there are four analogue audio inputs that are integrated with some of the inputs, one with the HDMI port, the composite port, and the two component ports. Computer connection with Panasonic TX-P46S10B is not a standard option; you would need to purchase a separate DVI to HDMI adapter to be able to use it as a monitor. Another problem would be the lack of output ports, there is only a single output port and it is an optical digital output, you won’t find any video or analogue audio outputs. If you want to view photos or play mp3s, there is an SD card slot in the side of the panel, unfortunately, it doesn’t have video playback capabilities.

Quality of sound with Panasonic TX-P46S10B is not exceptional but is more than capable of providing good audio. It has a few effects which you can tweak to achieve your desired audio output.

But basically, the Panasonic TX-P46S10B is a fairly good Plasma TV for its price. It provides good quality video output and given its size, the price is a bargain.
