Post Do You Feel Inferior as a Mom?
by: Kimberly Chastain

Do you find yourself comparing yourself to other Moms and coming up short? As much as we don’t want to admit it I think we do. Often it happens when your children come home and share what another Mom does that you don’t do.

What exactly is a “good” Mom anyway? Is it one who cooks everything from scratch? Is it one who sews? Is it one who lets her children stay up late? Often, it is whatever you think you don’t do well. I think it would be very hard to come up with a definition of a “good” Mom.

Yet, as CWMs are definition will be somewhat different. I love the Psalms and how the psalmist describes us and our relationship with God. Psalm 139:13-16 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days were ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

First, of all we are created in the image of God and he made us the Mom that we are. He gave us our personality and our special attributes. We are created in his image. So, when we feel inferior ultimately we are complaining about our Creator and how he made us.

Second, as CWMs being a “good” Mom means showing and telling our children about their Heavenly Father and about Christ work on the cross on our behalf. You see whether we cook at home or eat out, sew or buy clothes, (the list could go on), none of that matters if we don’t point our children to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. There are eternal consequences to accepting or rejecting Christ.

Now let me be clear Christ draws us to Himself and calls us lovingly into a relationship with Him. Ultimately, Christ does the calling and the saving. Still we have a responsibility to share Christ with our children. We need to tell them that being a child of Christ means we don’t do things that “everybody” else is doing. As Christians we will be a peculiar people and made fun of at times, because of whom we serve. Jesus was spat on and despised by men, why should we think we would be treated any differently.

As I close, let me tell you when you feel inferior as a Mom that often is Satan attacking making you feel you are a failure. Are we perfect as Moms? Absolutely not. That is why we and our children need a Savior. I want us to realize the world wants us to focus on earthly comparisons and as Christians we have a heavenly, eternal focus. We are going to have different goals for our children than non-Christians. May we teach our children to focus on God and his ways.

Don’t forget your heavenly Father made you for a purpose. That purpose is to glorify Him in everything you do. So, glorify Him as you parent your precious gifts from God.
