How To Coach Soccer: Who Else Want To Learn Soccer
by: Andre Botelho

Ever wondered how to coach soccer or more specifically youth soccer? There are many things that’ll start coming to your mind that it’ll confuse you even when the question is pretty simple.

One of the soccer skills that’s required for a player and a coach to learn is communication. A coach has to give instructions, share feedback, evaluate players, council them, maintain discipline, and all this requires communication skills.

Players, then again need an outlet to discuss performance issues with coach, peers, parents, colleagues, and share tips and tricks with relatively weak players in the team. The game of soccer acts as a common language for both players and coaches convey their feeling and thoughts.

There are some basic soccer coaching ideologies that the coaches must learn and later teach these to their players.

1. Call players by their name. This is not just polite but is also relaxing.

2. Make it clear in your head what you want players to do and achieve before sending out instructions.

3. Be kind: The purpose of communication is not to overpower but to bond. So value the opinions of others as well.

4. Look at your body language: it should make the other person comfortable and transmit positive vibes.

5.When speaking to the players, make an eye contact with them for effective communication. Look directly into the eyes of the player you are talking to.

6. The way you speak should make a mark upon the other person. So pick a style that suits your person as well as the person you are talking to.

7. Pick a topic that needs attention. Communication is the key to finding answers, how to coach soccer is successful when it is short and clear-cut. Pick a list of items and remain committed to it.

8.Be objective: Always remain cautious of the fact that you are a soccer coach who is speaking to a team or an individual player. So control your emotions and converse with them only on points related to the game.

9.Speak Clearly: Speak in a manner that your message flows across to the other person with the exact meaning.

10.When teaching soccer, repeat the important points. The players should always keep in mind the important points and this is possible only when you keep repeating them in different situations.

11.Try to keep the conversation funny by using words that are light and comical.

12.Give your players flexibility so that they can seek clarifications from you without any hitch. Allow them to ask questions.

A soccer coach who does not exhibit good communication skills required to distribute the information correctly will not be a good coach in the long run.
