Is the Pistol Offense a Two-back Offense?
by: Andrew Berkey

In 2004 Nevada Wolf Pack Football Coach Ault introduced new offense, the Pistol Offense. A cross between under center formations and thes shotgun formation. what he wanted to create was an offensive attack that had the advantges of under center and the shotgun.

The Pistol offense does just that. By lining the quarterback three to four yards behind the center he has him close enough to the LOS to be able to read the defense and far enough back to give him extra time and a better vision of the field just like in the shotgun.

Putting the tail back a couple of yards directly behind the quarteabck makes it harder for the defense to get a read on the direction of the play and the running back as well as adding a power running game to the spread formation.

Blue Valley High School (KS) Steve Rampy has changed the game. He has improvised and up graded the Pistol Offense one back strategy and developed The Pistol Offense - Two Back Offense.

Head Coach Steve Rampy of Blue Valley High School (KS) has taken Aults vision of the Pistol Offense and made it a much more explosive offense by creating http://scoretouchdowns.com/the_pistol_o ... fense.html

By adding a full back into the Pistol Offense and creating a two back offense, Rampy has changed the tempo of the game adding more fire power to his offenseive scheme.

The Pistol Offense Two-Back Offense adds a new dimension to the formation and enables the offense to attack the defense with a whole new series of plays. Taking advantage of adding a fullback to the backfield The Pistol Offense - Two Back Offense allows for a more complete ground game and explosive passing attack.

In conclusion if your are running a Pistol Offense, to be more competitive, you want to add a full back to your offensive arsenal. The Pistol Offense-Two Back Offense is what you need to dominate your competition by being able creating a new dimension to your play book with plays like the Fullback Trap and Speed Option, will add the firepower you need to keep the defense off balance and catch them flat footed.
