Post Top Countries for Wine Production
by: Rose Barrett

All over the world, wine is produced and distributed. Wine tasting and drinking has become both a simple hobby and a culinary pastime. Although dependent on taste and preference, there are some countries that stand out among the rest when it comes to wine production. Find a local wine tasting or wine bar to try some different wine varieties from around the world.

Wine production is more traditional and thus more well-known in European countries. For instance, wine consumption is extremely high in France--more than any other country in fact. The country that produces the most wine is Italy, where the northern regions of Piedmont and Tuscany are extremely popular. In Germany, the cooler climate is difficult for red grapes to be produced so it is mostly good for white wine. Spain has more acres for vines than another other wine producing country worldwide and produces primarily for consumption domestically.

Countries like Chile and Argentine in South America are also known for their vast vineyards. Chilean vineyards were first created by Spanish settlers in the 1500s. Today, various types such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon are very popular there. However, their wines are not as robust or fruitful as wines from other areas of the world.

The United States has wine producing states such as New York, Oregon, Washington and most popularly, California. South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are all also popular and well-known wine countries. All of the types of wine and regions for production can be very intimidating for a beginner. Ask your server for the best wine with your meal or try a local wine tasting event. Make note of which wines you enjoy the most. For wine collectors, try cellars and racks that will enhance the value and beauty of your collecting by checking out http://grottocellars.com/.
