Obama Drinking: What kind of Alcohol Does Barrack Obama Prefer?
by: Kevin Preble

It is said that President Obama has a stocked wine cellar in his home back in Chicago, yet it is hard to determine what his favorite drink is. This is because "The Big Guy" doesn't seem to stick to a particular drink, which people can label as his favorite. He has been seen having a range of drinks like martinis, beer, wine and margaritas.

For instance, during a visit to a West Village eatery in New York, the Blue Hill, Obama and the first lady chose wine to accompany their five-course dinner. Yet at the dinner, Michelle drank a couple of martinis. While at the Citronelle, a restaurant in D.C., the couple ordered matching martinis even though the restaurant was famous for its long list of fine wines. At the end, they ended up drinking mineral water and coffee that night. How bizarre.

Obama was also seen drinking beer along with other sports fans at a recent basketball game in D.C. It is said that on the election victory night, he opened a sparkling wine from South Africa, a bubbly Graham Beck Brut NV. Before moving into his office, he is said to have visited his favorite restaurant back in Chicago, Topolobampo, to order a $90 "celebration" wine pairings as listed in the menu. Kevin Casey, the manager of the restaurant, said that the first couple also ordered a round of margaritas.

At a lunch for members of the Congress, drinks were on the menu, but Obama refrained from drinking, seemingly hyper-aware of drinking in the office. While partying for the Superbowl, when other guests had beer, the President didn't take even a single sip of any beverage. The last time anyone saw him taste wine at the office was when he had a refreshing glass of victory wine in the Blair House (which is located opposite the White House) a few days before inauguration. Ever since, he seems to have abstained from drinking at the office.

Historians note that most previous presidents had their favorite drinks. For instance, FDR had a liking for martinis. Tricky Dick took to Chteau Margaux and Lyndon Johnson loved scotch. They say that it was President Jimmy Carter who brought about a sense of piety to the office during his administration in the 70's. President Bush too upheld that culture. But as far as President Obama is concerned, we are still at a loss as to what his favorite drink really is. Perhaps he will inspire a new drink called, "The Hope and Change". Perhaps it will be a "drink" in a huge glass, filled with nothing but ice cubes and a pink umbrella, yet it will be really expensive.

But I digress. Any ideas on another great drink, "The Dubya"?
