5 Valuable Tips For Becoming A US Citizen
by: Gregg Stone

If you’ve chosen to read this article, becoming a US citizen is something you have been thinking about. However, getting your citizenship is not as easy as you’d think. There are quite a few requirements. This article isn’t going to go over the requirements but is going to give you some tips to make becoming a US citizen a lot easier. And, I can honestly tell you that, the pride you will feel once you’ve accomplished this is something that you won’t get from anything else.

The starting point for becoming a U.S. Citizen: You’re going to need to apply for form N-400. Where you send your application is going to vary depending on where you live. For example, if you live in Alabama you will apply to the office in Lewisville, TX. If you live in California you will apply to the office in Phoenix, AZ. So please make sure you look up your address at the government site so you can send your application to the correct office. If you don’t, they will deny your application.

When it comes to filling out the form, it is strongly recommended that you download it to your computer, print it out, fill it out and mail it in, don’t fill it out directly on your web browser. Doing things online can pose a whole new set of problems that you don’t have with everyday United States mail. While it may seem faster, in this instance avoid the internet option. Fill out your application the way they did before the Internet.

Now for the most important part: the interview process. Remember, just be yourself. Don’t try to show the person interviewing you how much you know about the U.S. by spewing out a bunch of facts Just speak from the heart and tell them why you want to be a citizen. This will go over a lot better than a recitation of US history.

Be confident in your interview. It’s normal to be scared but be confident. You’ve prepared long and hard for this and most importantly, you know that you’re applying for citizenship for the right reasons.

Whatever you do, don’t lie. Make no mistake about it, if you lie, they will find out about it. They are going to investigate you, your friends, your family and everybody you know. If they ask you a question, no matter what it is, be honest. They will respect your honesty a lot more than a bold faced lie.
