Nursing Vacancies Abroad
by: Kathryn Dawson

Getting through your studies to become a registered nurse is often the easiest part, once they are over you then have to decide where your interests lay and the type of environment you would like to work in. With the huge amount of opportunities available in the healthcare industry these days nurses are spoilt for choice. Whether you decide to stay in your own country and get experience or travel abroad, then you'll be pleased to know the demand for nurses is growing at a rapid rate.

Every nursing job requires different skills and qualifications so finding the right job shouldn't take too long if you know where to look and what type of career you want to focus on. Jobs in the field of nursing have varying educational requirements ranging from basic nursing certification to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in nursing. Registered nurses typically have a 4 year bachelor's degree, while a certified nurse practitioner has a master's degree. When looking through the jobs on offer then they should state the type of educational background the employer requires.

Job listings don't always state the salary you can expect, generally they depend upon the qualification and amount of experience you have. Some of the most highly paid nurses are nurse anesthetists. Lots of nursing jobs also offer extra benefits on top of the salary, common benefits include a healthcare plan, an employer funded pension and paid time off. Some companies give employees the opportunity to choose their own working schedule, a great idea if you like to work during the night shift, or prefer early shifts.

Because of a global nursing shortage and a higher demand for nursing services, healthcare organizations are faced with staffing dilemmas that are reaching crisis levels, in certain places such as the US, Canada, the Philippines, Australia, and Western Europe there are considerable nursing shortages. If you are considering moving to another part of the country, or another country altogether then the odds are you will find a job in no time.

Generally, nurses are attracted to Australia, Canada and the US for work, the Arab countries particularly UAE pay extremely well and offer a high standard of living. Benefits are also an added bonus with housing or a housing allowance offered, travel expenses paid and long holidays enticing qualified staff to up and leave their own country. Nurses working in the UAE can expect a good standard of living and have the chance to save some serious money in a location that offers sunshine and excitement as an added bonus!

Many countries are experiencing a shortage of nurses, if you have the right qualifications and attitude then you could walk into a good job in no time. Agencies and employers recruit nurses to fill positions by placing advertisements in nursing journals and on nursing web sites, with each country offering different kinds of opportunities and salary, it all depends on where you choose to work. There is lots of information to be found online, where to look for the best jobs and tips and advice on what it's like to work in various countries abroad. Ensure you really do your research before making any quick decision as living and working in a different country isn't for everyone.

There are agencies online that specialise in finding you work abroad in specific countries and will give you lots of support and information on how to get the job, as well as what to expect once you are there. They specialise in the recruitment of healthcare professionals on behalf of employers, look out for advertisements in nursing journals and on the Internet. They will assist you in all the details that let you work abroad as a nurse and provide you with advice regarding banking, housing, and other relevant issues in preparation for your move overseas.

When looking for nursing vacancies yourself by answering advertisements and approaching potential employers directly, be aware that before going abroad to nurse you have to obtain the necessary documentation regarding nursing registration from the country where you would like to work.
