Post IT Jobs
IT Jobs
by: Donald Carroll

It is a well known fact nowadays that IT jobs are both plentiful and lucrative, for those qualified.

My name is Donald Carroll. I have held many IT jobs, but today I am the President and Webmaster of Green Planet Fantasy Theater. How did I get here? I have over ten years of experience working at many different IT jobs. I also have five years of teaching experience - teaching and helping students get themselves into good IT jobs working with both Microsoft and Cisco Technologies (as well as other networking technologies such as Novell Netware, Unix, and Linux.) Having held numerous IT jobs myself, I am twice certified by Microsoft as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and twice certified by Cisco Systems as a Cisco Certified Network Associate, or CCNA?

My own IT jobs have been very good to me. Information Technology is an excellent trade to get into for those of you looking for IT jobs. As a former instructor, I can tell you that in order to get the really good IT jobs, one prerequisite is that you must be at least comfortable with using computers. For good IT jobs, it is even better if you have a sort of knack for fixing computers when they break! Those of you who are already familiar with using, repairing, and even building computers are perfectly cut out for some of the more lucrative IT jobs out there.

The purpose of this article, besides aiming you towards the better IT jobs out there, is to help you along the path towards earning your industry standard certifications in the field of Information Technology - required for many good IT jobs. I will tell you on the next page exactly what to do if you are interested in getting one of the better IT jobs out there, and entering into the field of Information Technology, even if you have no experience whatsoever - even if you have never held an IT job. In the field of Information Technology, and for the better IT jobs, it is often not enough to just earn your certifications as employers of good IT jobs often favor IT professionals with actual work experience.

I will also share with you more about my own background experience in different IT jobs, and how they helped me to succeed in the field of Information Technology.

In the early 1990's IT jobs were more rare! Knowing then nothing of IT jobs, I was working as an administrative assistant. As part of my duties, I learned how to use different computer programs; common business applications found in IT jobs such as word editors, spreadsheet programs, and databases. Before learning more about IT jobs, and while I was at the same time desiring one, I sent away for a PC (Personal Computer) home study course, mostly because it came with a PC! I learned about computer hardware and computer software, including operating systems such as Microsoft DOS and Windows version 3.1. (In getting IT jobs, learning about computer hardware and computer software, including operating systems, is the first step in training for IT jobs.)

I also then used a modem for the first time to connect to the Internet; at that time, the only real Internet choices there were was GopherNet and the America Online Network (or AOL.) Besides then connecting to a rather bleak Internet, in comparison with today's Internet, you could connect to what were called BBS's, or electronic bulletin boards. These sites allowed you to chat, play games, and both upload and download content. There were no IT jobs as we know them - at least, they were not referred to as IT jobs.

In 1997 I relocated to the Silicon Valley (San Jose, California), often considered to be the birth place of modern IT jobs. I began applying around for administrative assistant positions. One recruiter pointed out to me that I had a list of computer skills a mile long, and wanted to recruit me for an IT job. Having already learned a number of different business applications, applicable to some IT jobs, and having also completed a two year IT jobs related home study course as a PC Specialist, I was offered a high paying short term IT job to provide computer support for employees at NEC Computers. It was the first of many IT jobs for me; I was basically an apprentice to what I would call a guru in terms of computers and computer networking skills.

In pursuit of some of the better IT jobs I entered college again to earn an Associate of Science/Information Systems Degree. After my IT job at NEC Computers ended I applied for another IT job with Honeywell Automated and Industrial Controls, and I accepted an IT job as a computer hardware technician. I was now pursuing a second degree in Information Technology, and working at different IT jobs, developing IT job skills critical to becoming a real IT expert, and securing even better IT jobs. (At that time, IT jobs like mine were considered to be in the field of Management Information Systems (MIS). Later, in IT jobs like mine, you were considered to be an Information Specialist (IS), and, today it is all well known as Information Technology (IT)).

As far as IT jobs go, that was the beginning for me. I soon continued on to other IT jobs and into teaching computer networking technologies. I accepted other IT jobs, and eventually I accepted senior network engineering positions. I WAS BY THEN EARNING WAGES and BENEFITS PACKAGES I HAD NEVER DREAMED OF!!! I essentially climbed the ladder from working in IT jobs as a computer hardware technician to working IT jobs as an instructor, a network engineer, a senior network engineer, and finally as a consultant! Today I have taken leave of IT jobs to write articles such as this one, and to function as webmaster for this web site, Green Planet Fantasy Theater.

If you would like to get good IT jobs and enter into the field of Information Technology PLEASE CONTINUE READING ON THE NEXT PAGE!!!

I myself have graduated over four hundred computer networking students, and placed many of them into IT jobs. I can teach you how to learn computer hardware and software, and computer networking. I will tell you what course books to study and how and what certification tests to prepare for. WE ALSO HAVE ALL OF THE BOOKS AND SOFTWARE PACKAGES YOU WILL NEED TO BEGIN PREPARING FOR YOUR A+ CERTIFICATION, YOUR MCSE, AND YOUR CCNA, CCNP, AND/OR CCIE!!!
