Roller Derby in San Jose, CA

Whether your driving, biking, or walking chances of you seeing a derby girl skating by isn't very slim. These girls mean business. Getting ready for a game is more than just going to practice. They must eat, breath, and THINK derby. That means being more comfortable on skates than on two feet. And whats a better way to work on endurance and stability than skate outdoors?

So where are the best places to spot a derby girl? Depends on what they're gearing up for. They mainly flier around Downtown San Jose, Campbell, and various malls. So if you see a girl on skates in one of these areas don't be afraid to ask them for a flier or information about any upcoming events. Chances are they'll be more than happy to meet a fan and talk to you.

For endurance and training you can see these girls skating the Los Gatos Creek Trail. The tough terrain of the trail doesn't stop these girls from skating the Prunyard to Vasona! Its a great accomplishment knowing one can skate all the way there, and back! It's an even bigger accomplishment if they didn't fall! The trail has hills and obstacles to take on which will make a derby girl have quick reflexes, and very sturdy on heir feet. Not to mention how much their endurance will grow if they skate the whole trail.

If you're interested in learning how to skate then finding a large area of smoothed concrete would be best. Parking lots, schools, or even low traffic streets are great to learn how to skate and build endurance. Places with debris, sticks, and cars aren't suggested for a newer skaters. Always remember to wear kneepads, elbow pads, and a helmet for protection
