The HTC Desire Z Can Handle Any Task With Ease
by: Chris Westley

The HTC Desire Z is a newly released QWERTY smartphone from the manufacturer. A successor to the original HTC Desire, which was recently released in conjunction with the Desire HD, it boasts a number of impressive key features.

Utilising the increasingly common combination of a touchscreen and physical keyboard, the HTC Desire Z offers the best of both worlds in terms of both UI navigation, and efficiency of text entry. As well as this, there is also a 5 megapixel digital camera, Android OS 2.1 with the HTC Sense UI and full Wi-Fi connectivity.

The handset measures 119x 60.4x 14.2 mm and only weighs in a 180 grams, which is respectable for a handset which has a separate keyboard panel. The 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen has the ability to display up to 16M colours within its pixel configuration of 480x 800 making it perfect for viewing photos and video files, especially in conjunction with it’s built in accelerometer sensor.

The highly customisable HTC Sense UI makes another appearance in the HTC Desire Z. Allowing up to 7 fully customisable homescreens to be configured; users can set a homescreen for each occasion or scenario. For example, they could assign one for the office, with productivity tools and apps located on the screen, or one for entertainment which could include a media player, games or and radio functions. This feature gives users endless possibilities to really make their handset their own.

Of course the customisation aspect of the handset does not stop there. Access to the Android Market is provided as standard, which allows users to browse and choose from thousands of applications which can be downloaded, from every imaginable category. The versatility of the Android UI coupled with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MHz processor gives a great platform for expansion and customisation.

As with just about every other HTC handset, there are a number of innovative software features, which set the brand apart from many more established smartphone manufacturers. The HTC Desire Z also includes features such as a stereo FM radio player with RDS, a versatile internal media player, and social networking integration, along with the standard Android Google features. A versatile digital camera is perfect for those who like to take spontaneous snapshots as well as those who are serious about their photography, thanks to the inclusion of a number of image enhancing features.

All in all, the HTC Desire Z looks set to prove popular amongst those who prefer the use of a QWERTY keyboard when entering test, but still like the option of a touchscreen when navigating the UI. A long list of powerful software as well as the impressive hardware means the HTC Desire Z is sure to prove a success.
