The Motorola Milestone 2 Is An Impressive All Rounder
by: Chris Westley

Due for release in the last quarter of 2010 the Motorola Milestone 2 looks set to be a success, with a number of improvements on its predecessor the Motorola Milestone.

Key improvements from the previous model include a faster processor, an improved keyboard, more internal memory, upgraded Android OS, full flash support and HD video capture.

One of the key hardware improvements has to be the 1 GHz processor. Whilst the 600 MHZ processor in its predecessor wasn’t exactly slow, the Motorola Milestone 2 will be able to carry out tasks such as multitasking and flash support, thanks to the increased computing power.

The slide-out full QWERTY keyboard which reveals itself from beneath the 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen has been redesigned to accommodate slightly larger and better quality keys which are presented in a more efficient layout. The combination of a physical keyboard and a touchscreen is sure to appeal to many users who may prefer text entry on a physical keyboard, and the touchscreen for certain applications such as web browsing its.

The display quality on the Motorola Milestone 2 is very good thanks to the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 480x 854. Gorilla scratch resistant glass is used to coat the screen, protecting it from everyday wear and tear and scratches. Thanks to the faster processor, there is virtually zero lag when using the touch screen making for an impressive user experience.

The Motorola Milestone 2 features a 5 mega pixel digital camera, as was seen on its predecessor. However, this time around as well as Autofocus, dual LED flash and image stabilisation, it comes with the ability to shoot 720p HD video footage at 30 frames per second, a big improvement on the video recording capabilities of the previous model. The camera is also equipped with geo-tagging which, thanks to GPS will tag the location at which a photo was taken which can in turn be viewed on a map.

The latest version of the Android OS, 2.2 (Froyo) is present this time around, which allows up to seven homescreens to be customised, and is presented in conjunction with the MOTOBLUR UI, which utilises live social networking feeds. Of course access to the Android Market is provided as standard allowing users to browse and download thousands of apps for just about every conceivable purpose and category.

The Motorola Milestone 2 provides an impressive Internet browsing experience with both 3G (HSDPA) and Wi-Fi connections being available. In fact the handset can also perform 3G tethering, making it a local wireless hotspots which can be utilised by up to five other devices. The Internet browser comes with full flash support allowing users to view video, animations, graphics, and games online. Being an Android device, the full package of Google software is included as standard.

The Motorola Milestone 2 actually does a great job of combining high levels of functionality with design. This version seems somehow more refined in the aesthetics department compared to its predecessor, whilst it makes leaps and bounds with its included technology. For fans of the QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen combo, the Motorola Milestone should be at the top of your wish list.
