Nokia N8 - Providing A Long Spec List
by: Chris Westley

When it comes to choosing a camera phone these days users are spoilt for choice. Whilst many Smartphones have incorporated digital cameras which had broken the 8 mega pixel mark, Nokia has released the N8, a feature rich Smartphone which comes with a stunning 12 mega pixel digital camera.

The high pixel count of the camera results in a pixel resolution of 4000x 3000 pixels resulting in superb clarity and quality of still images. The camera even utilises the Carl Zeiss optics, reassuring users about the build quality of the camera lenses. In order to simplify the task of taking high quality images there are a number of image enhancing features included as standard. These include Autofocus, face & smile detection and a Xenon flash to overcome the obstacle of low lighting conditions. Of course such an advanced camera can shoot video as well, and this is in no less than 720p quality (High Definition). There is also a secondary VGA video called camera located on the front of the phone allowing live streaming of video footage to take place during phone calls with friends and family who have a similar feature on their phone.

Access to the Internet is provided via an HSDPA connection at respectable speeds of 10.2 mega bytes per second in areas covered by 3G. A faster Internet connection is available however thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity. This utilises local wireless networks where available for an optimum browsing experience. Cellular networks are connected to thanks to class 33 EDGE & GPRS whilst micro USB and Bluetooth are provided to connect to other devices in order to carry out a number of different tasks.

The Nokia N8 comes with an impressive 3.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. Boasting the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel resolution of 360x 640, it’s certainly features high levels of display quality and clarity. Coupled with its built in accelerometer sensor, this makes it ideal for viewing photos and video files due to the ability to watch in both portrait and landscape forms dependent upon the orientation of the handset itself.

In terms of entertainment features, users will not be disappointed with the Nokia N8. The versatile internal media player supports just about every music and video file format you could think of, whilst there are also a number of pre-installed games with further downloadable games if required, and a stereo FM radio player with RDS. To enjoy media files from the phone on a TV there is the ability to use an HDMI cable to connect the phone to a TV so you can watch high definition video which you have shot using the camera on the phone.

The Nokia N8 is relatively compact given its long list of features and is very pocket friendly at just 135 g. It is available in a number of different colour variants including dark grey, silver white, green, blue and orange. Therefore a colour to suit most tastes is available meaning the Nokia N8 also doubles up as a fashion statement in mobile phone form.
