Released in April 2010, the Desire from smartphone manufacturer par excellence HTC provides an enviable specification list, offering appeal to everyone from the everyday phone user to gadget freaks.

Key features of the HTC Desire include Wi-Fi internet access, 5 megapixel digital camera and the Android OS (v2.1), and this is just scratching the surface, so it is easy to see why is has proven to be so popular.

The compact profile of the HTC Desire is makes it a highly portable smartphone which easily fits into a handbag or pocket. Weighing in at a respectable 135 grams, the HTC Desire is lightweight considering the length of its spec list. Superb quality display of the onscreen imagery is achieved thanks to a generously proportioned 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. As well as this interactive and dynamic method of navigation the HTC Sense UI, an optical trackpad is also located below the screen, offering a thumb operated alternative method of navigation.

A generous amount of internal memory makes the HTC Desire great for storing all kinds of data such as media files. An integrated micro SD card slot is also provided to allow expandable memory, as this can accommodate a memory card of up to a whopping 32 GB. This is more than enough to store most people's entire digital music collection and make for a great partnership with the internal media player.

As you may expect from an HTC smartphone, several methods of connectivity are utilised, ensuring the Desire stays connected to cellular networks and the internet via the most appropriate means. Cellular networks and the internet rely initially on class 10 GPRS & EDGE in areas with low levels of 3G coverage. 3G coverage when available provides access to the internet at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps via an HSDPA connection. Wi-Fi allows a faster internet connection to be achieved when in a Wi-Fi hotspot, whilst other hardware device can be connected to thanks to Bluetooth and micro USB connections.

A high quality built in digital camera offers 5 MP of picture quality, resulting in great looking images. Of course, this camera can also shoot video in D1 quality, offering an alternative method of image capture. Several built in features simplify the task of taking great photos, and these include autofocus and an LED flash.

In terms of entertainment features, the HTC Desire delivers a versatile media player, as well as a built in radio player. A number of games are also pre-installed, keeping users entertained for hours on end. Social networking integration plays a big part in the appeal of the HTC Desire. FaceBook, Flickr and Twitter all have dedicated applications which can be downloaded via the Android Market, so users can instantly access their accounts and stay up to date with friends and family.
